't Woudt

Province in the west of the country, roughly occupying the southern half of the former province of Holland, which was disbanded in 1814. Biggest cities are Rotterdam, which is of little importance as far as monuments and architecture are concerned, and Den Haag (The Hague), provincial capital and national capital de facto. Other important places are Delft, Leiden and Dordrecht. Much of the province's territory is now taken up by these cities that have expanded to a large extend, some of them seamlessly connected to each other. Although the province has a protestant majority, the area north of Leiden has a largely catholic population.
